SEA TEACHER EXCHANGE REPORT

This is the school where I was assigned. The heart of the school is the student. I am so thankful that I was assign, why? because this students taught me how to face the challenges that I might encounter in the future. This school really taught the students to be Polite and Respectful not just to their guest but also to the Teachers and co-student.

1.2  ACADEMIC SUPPORT SYSTEM





Religion is the priority of all, they have the time to pray as it is already the rule of their religion. In a meanwhile these students was supported through joining some sports activities such as having a mini tournament in Badminton or any sports. Also they sent their student to a competition. they even had an award and was posted in front of the office so that the students will have the courage to join the event.




1.3 TEACHING SYSTEM




From January to June is the first Semester next is that July to December is the second Semester. I was teaching in SMP7 under the Junior High School. From Monday to Thursday their class will start at 7:30 and ends  at 16:00 (4:00pm) while every Friday they will end at 11:30 because all men are required to go the Mosque to pray.

1.4 MATERIALS AND OTHER LEARNING SOURCES




SMP7 was using technologies in teaching but in my case I cannot use technology since I was handling Physical Education. I was using the sports equipment since it is part of my subject. But overall this school had the things they might provide to their class.

1.5 MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION SYSTEM


In SMP7 they have Mid Semester exam and End of the Semester Exam. Also for every Basic Competency the Teacher have to evaluate the students by having daily exam. But in my case I was handling Physical Education we use the grade of the activity so that the student have their grade by performance.


1.6 CURRICULUM





In the Learning Area, SMP7 used the curriculum 2013. In Curriculum 2013 is what Indonesia School applied. That is what the Indonesia Education System was provide to each school of Indonesia. Before the 2013 Curriculum, Indonesia used the 2006 Curriculum for 6 years.


1.7 TEACHING PLAN  (OF YOUR MAJOR)






Teaching plan or shall we say Lesson Plan is what the teacher made for the class. In my Major as I made the lesson plan there are a lot of Activities that I must give to my students since it is their theories. But as I observed my teacher didn't follow sometimes in her lesson plan or teaching plan since she already know that her student have different kind of way to learn.

Overall the school is fit to have a practicum since it also have the things that you look for. Having practice teaching, the school is not important instead the important thing is the way of teaching and handling the students in the way of your own.

2. PEDAGOGICAL CONTENTS


2.1 TEACHING METHOD OF THE TEACHER THAT YOU OBSERVED


During on my observation the teacher always use the Student-centered method. As what I have discovered the important for them when it comes to teaching is the student-centered method. They believe that the students nowadays can learn through their own imagination. The imagination of the children this day are improving, they really want to learn by their own discovery.


2.2 THEIR LEARNING MATERIALS AND INNOVATION


I used traditional way in my learning material and innovation. As Physical Education it is really hard if we will use the technology because I have a lots of activities during my class. I use equipment in teaching in every lesson for example in badminton i introduce the parts by using the equipment so that they can understand well. another thing is the diameter of the court I create a visual aid or portrait of the court.






2.3 SOURCES OF LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY USED BY THE TEACHER


The teacher will used laptop when she will make her lesson plan and also to have a recap about the topic. If she want to learn or study the lesson then she will just use the technology. But when it comes to the discussion then she won't use the technology instead she use the traditional method of teaching.

2.4 AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT USED BY THE TEACHER






During in my observation the teacher use the student-self assessment. Most of the teacher use it since they were handling Physical Education (SPORTS). It also fit in the major since Physical Education will be graded by performance.

Overall the teaching process is fine, it's their culture of teaching and I must RESPECT their way.


3. TEACHING PLAN


3.1 CURRICULUM

The curriculum that has been used in Indonesia is the curriculum 2013. Curriculum 13 is the latest curriculum in Indonesia. The same as it was used in my class and in my school.

3.2 TEACHING PLAN RELATED TO YOUR MAJOR


My lesson plan during my internship in Padang is this. My mentor just let me use the Philippine Lesson plan.


Lesson Plan in Physical Education (Sports)

     At the end of the class the students are expected to:

a. Know the theories of Long Jump Event in Athletics;

b. Apply the event through a lead up game by group;
c. Manifest the value of sportsmanship through the game.

b.The class will be given a time to study and know about the Long Jump event.

a. The class will have the activity called "Lead Up Game"
b. The class will be divided into 4 groups and each group will have their representatives.
c. The representative will be the one to play the game.
d. They will jump as long as they can, and the group that has the longest jump will be the winner.

4. TEACHING PRACTICE


4.1 PROCEDURES OF TEACHING


Procedures of teaching Early in the morning, I always greet everyone that I will meet. I go to the room greeting my wonderful students. I check their attendance and asking them "How was their morning?" After then, In the policy the first hour will their time to read their notes. On the next hour will be the recap of the previous lesson and discussing the new lesson. After giving them the new lesson they will have the activity but before that they will change their uniform into P.E Uniform. The student encountered to play Badminton outside in their room. At the end of the activity I will asked them again about the activity and the topic.



4.2 TIME MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZING ACTIVITIES


Since I am a MAPEH major it is not complicated for me because in Padang, Indonesia. I have 3 hours every class so the time was already set. The first hour is for the reading of their notes. Second will be the Recap of the last topic and the discussion of the new topic. While the last hour is for the activities related to the topic. As I observed in my mentor, she have 3 activities in one class she even manage it. Also when I did my demonstration I also manage to have 3 activities since activity is important for them. 

4.3 PROBLEM SOLVING


The only problem that I encounter during my class is that teaching them with the use of English Language and in fact only few of my student can understand and speak English. Good thing is that they became my translator because I need a translator also. Each of my class has a translator so my problem was just solve. Overall that was just the problem that I encounter and I have just found the solution after then. One example also is that my mentor cannot speak English but she explain to me that English is not important in Indonesia that's why she apologized for it. 
                          

4.4 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

In the classroom management at first I thought that my student will be noisy like the other student but I was amazed as I enter the classroom and everything was fine. I was shocked about what i observed to them. They were so polite and respectful. I discuss the topic in front of them at the center a place where everyone can see me. I used the Student- Centered method. I always checked their attendance by the activities that I have given to them. Also as I discuss in front I always asked them if they understand about my discussion and if it's not then I won't proceed to the next. 




4.5 OTHERS


Inside of the classroom my students showed their RESPECT to the person in front of them and that is good also a sign that they were taught in the right way.



5. SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION


5.1 PURPOSE OF PRACTICUM

The purpose of this practicum is to test yourself if you are fit enough to this course. Also for you to try the field of being a teacher.With the help of SEAMEO I have tried to teach other country beside of my homeland. With this kind of program my mind was widely open to other things that I can't try in my own country. Though teaching in Indonesia and Philippines is the same but the way of dealing or handling students is different since it has different culture.



5.2 PROCEDURES OF PRACTICUM


First and for most the important thing before to taking the practicum is that the money to buy ticket for the plane and for pocket money. Money is the important thing to join the practicum aside of having the confident in teaching other culture.Next is the courage to face or take the challenge of facing different culture and to live by yourself. Each and everyone of us are expecting that this program is just a burden to the students and this is just useless but they were wrong of thinking about this program. This program help me to be open and meet other people in different society. This program gives me the best memories that I had in my life. Expect the unexpected they said, things will come in your life through this journey of program.



5.3 OUTCOMES OF PRACTICUM


For me the outcome of this practicum is that:
  • The students became open minded in different culture and society as they were only used to engage in their own culture.
  • The students were taught to improve their skills in teaching and in their social life.
  • The students were improve and challenge in speaking English also Indonesian Language for the future generation.
  • The practicum students gain the respect of other people in different culture.
Overall outcome of this practicum is to engage the field of being a teacher with a plot twist, which is you will engage in different culture or social life.


5.4 CHALLENGES OF PRACTICUM


The challenges that I encounter during practicum days is that Exchanging conversation with other people of Padang, Indonesia also to my mentor. English isn't important to them, my mentor told me. Everywhere I will go I really need translator but if it was just calling a driver I know just a little greeting of Indonesian people. these are the example of scenario that I had the hardest challenge that I encounter in Padang;
  • When I ride angkot/go car/ go ride only few drivers can speak in English that's why I must have to say just little word so that they can understand me.
  • When we want to buy something we are having hard time to buy because if we will speak in English the vendor will increase the price instead. 
But overall it was fun discovering things by yourself, everything that we do even it's hard or not there are solution on it just don't give up and learn to respect other people.


6.5 OVERALL IMPRESSION


The overall impression is that simply;

To this program (SEAMEO) : 
        
        The program was great, the opportunity was best to grab. This is one of the best thing that happened in my entire life. The program was worth to take everything was great, it is really hard to describe especially when it is beyond my expectation. One month is not enough for this memorable experience.

To the receiving university (UNP)

         The place makes me feel my second home. One month with the wonderful place isn't enough but then they make me feel that one month is like a year for me, the people was so great just like the place.

In this program it doesn't make me feel regret by taking this chance because everything was great to take. Everything was worth to take.


6.6 SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE IMPROVEMENT

The only suggestion I can give is that please make it more than a month. One month isn't enough to be with those people whom you already being with.
